Transforming Assessment in UK Education
OpenKit Ltd, a leader in enterprise-grade Artificial Intelligence solutions, has been awarded a strategic contract by the UK Department for Education to transform how teachers approach formative assessment marking. This innovative initiative will deliver an intelligent system that converts marking from an administrative burden into an efficient, insight-rich process that enhances teaching outcomes.
Empowering Teachers Through Technology
Our proposed solution combines advanced AI with pedagogical expertise to help teachers provide high-quality, personalised feedback while reducing marking time by up to 50%. By integrating seamlessly with existing classroom management tools, the system will assist teachers with routine marking tasks while preserving their critical role in student assessment.
“Every hour a teacher spends on administrative marking is an hour they could be spending on lesson planning or direct student support,” says Ibrahim Mizi, CEO of OpenKit. “Our solution will help teachers provide more detailed, personalised feedback in less time, allowing them to focus on what matters most - teaching.”
Initial Implementation
The project will begin with Key Stage 4 Geography, with plans to expand to other key stages and subjects following successful trials. Throughout 2025, schools across the UK will join the program, marking a significant step forward in educational innovation.
“We’re excited to demonstrate AI serving a genuine need in education,” says Reuben McQueen, CTO of OpenKit. “Our goal is reducing marking time by 50% while maintaining high quality feedback through level-appropriate explanations and follow-up exercises tailored to each student.”
